About Geoffrey Blake

Geoffrey Blake has spent over four decades working at the highest levels of film and television — and the calls keep coming.

Robert Zemeckis cast him in Forrest Gump, Contact, and Cast Away. Ron Howard put him in Apollo 13, EDtv, and Frost/Nixon. Emilio Estevez chose him for four films. On television, he has worked with Steven Bochco and David Milch on NYPD Blue, Jerry Bruckheimer on CSI, Shonda Rhimes on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, David Shore on House, Donald P. Bellisario on NCIS, and Dick Wolf through the Law and Order franchise. That is not a résumé built on luck. That is forty years of the most trusted directors and showrunners in the business choosing the same actor, again and again.

Geoffrey Blake trained seriously, across techniques and with the best, and came away understanding that there is no single approach that works for every actor. Every person in the room is different, and that difference is invaluable.

He doesn't come in as a teacher but as another actor. One who has been working at the highest level for over forty years and has a standard he is wishes to pass on.

The Workshop

A workshop designed so that everyone in the room is learning the entire time.

From the moment you arrive, you are working among peers. No lectures. No passive note-taking. No watching from the sidelines. Just the work, in real time, alongside nine other actors, with Geoffrey in the room with you.

Both days run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Ten participants. The room is small because the work requires it. The final 90 minutes of Day 2 brings in agents, managers, and casting directors for an honest conversation about where the industry stands and where it is heading.

The Truth

Geoffrey helps actors ask the questions that shape a performance: What does your character want? What do they really want? How does your character serve the story? The answers are where the work begins.

You never want to act what you think. You want to act what you feel. Through relaxation and emotional exercises, you connect with your body, your instrument, and bring genuine truth to the work.

Sense memory and active imagination exercises develop emotional depth and specificity. Authenticity is the foundation of a long career, and these are the tools for building performances that are layered, personal, and real.

Scene and monologue work is where your talent grows. You take risks, get real adjustments, fail, refine, and go again in real time. You leave with a stronger actor's toolkit than the one you arrived with.

On the final hours of Day 2, agents, managers, and casting directors come into the room for an honest conversation about where the industry stands and where it is heading. Geoffrey joins with his own perspective on career direction, longevity, and what it takes to keep working at the highest level. Most actors never get this conversation. You will.

Where is Ripley-Grier Studios?

305 West 38th Street, New York, NY 10018, Studio 212. Conveniently located four blocks north of Penn Station and Moynihan Station, three blocks south of Port Authority and the Times Square subway station.

What should participants prepare?

Come with two contrasting scenes or monologues you know well — material you have already worked and are ready to take further. Geoffrey will direct from what you bring into the room. Detailed preparation notes will be sent after your booking is confirmed.

How are the two days structured?

Both days run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Day 1 is entirely workshop: scene work, direction, and peer feedback with Geoffrey. Day 2 follows the same format until 2:30 PM, when a panel of agents, managers, and casting directors comes in for the State of the Industry conversation. All participants and observers are present for the panel.

What do observers do?

Observers are present for the full two days — watching Geoffrey work with each participant, listening to the direction, and sitting in on the group discussions. No performance is required.

Who are the panelists for the State of the Industry session?

Agents, managers, and casting directors currently working in the industry. Full names and details will be sent to all registered attendees as panelists are confirmed.

What is the refund policy?

Spots are non-refundable but may be transferred to another eligible actor at your discretion. Contact ATK directly to arrange a transfer.
